“THE EAR’S UNFORGETTABLE SERENADE”
By Frank P Ebikefe
The mosquito’s crush on the ear became public knowledge, as he couldn’t contain his emotions. His friends teased him mercilessly, joking that he lacked the courage to confess his feelings to the ear itself. Their playful jabs and witty remarks only fueled the mosquito’s anxiety about revealing his secret admiration.
With a determined buzz, he declared, “I’ve had enough of these taunts! As a mosquito, I’ll gather my courage and confess my feelings to the Ear. No more hiding, no more teasing – it’s time to reveal my true emotions, no matter the outcome!”
With a dash of confidence and a pinch of nervousness, the mosquito donned his finest attire and fluttered towards the Ear. His heart buzzed with excitement, his mind whispered words of encouragement, and his tiny wings propelled him forward, as if chanting, “You’ve got this!” As he approached the Ear, anticipation and anxiety danced in perfect harmony.
The Ear’s reaction was immediate and intense, her response a loud, exasperated cry: “What now?!” The mosquito’s buzzing had become all too familiar, and the Ear’s patience wore thin. She braced herself for another annoying encounter, her tone dripping with irritation.
The mosquito’s composure wavered, but his proboscis seemed to whisper words of encouragement, echoing Hamlet’s famous soliloquy: “To be or not to be, that is the question… You’ve come this far, now’s the time to confess.” With renewed determination, the mosquito steeled himself and began to speak, his tiny voice trembling slightly as he addressed the Ear.
The mosquito’s resolve strengthened with each flutter of his wings. “I’ve come too far to turn back now,” he thought, his determination fueled by his emotions. With a deep breath, he buzzed closer to the Ear, his tiny heart pounding in his chest. “Here goes nothing,” he whispered to himself, preparing to reveal his true feelings.
The mosquito’s voice was surprisingly steady, considering his nervousness. He took a deep breath and continued, “…something that has been on my mind for a while now… something that makes my wings flutter with excitement every time I think about it…” He paused for a moment, gathering his courage before blurting out his confession.
The Ear’s abrupt response cut him off mid-sentence, her sharp tone making the mosquito’s wings falter for a moment. “What?” she demanded, her voice impatient and unforgiving. The mosquito’s heart skipped a beat as he struggled to regain his composure and continue his confession.
The mosquito’s words tumbled out in a nervous rush, his stammering growing more pronounced as he confessed his feelings. “Ever since I came in contact with the human body from head to toe, it’s you I fell in love with at first sight,” he declared, his voice filled with emotion. “And I would want to marry youuu…” The mosquito’s tiny heart poured out his sincerity, awaiting the Ear’s response with bated breath.
The Ear’s laughter was like thunder, echoing through the night air and leaving the mosquito stunned. The sound of women’s clapping and murmurs of amusement followed, drawing a crowd’s attention. “Come hear this story, folks! Mr. Mosquito wants to marry me!” the Ear announced, her voice dripping with amusement. The mosquito’s face burned with embarrassment as he realized the absurdity of his situation.
The mosquito’s determination returned, and he stood his ground, his tiny voice firm. “What is wrong with that?” he asked, his compound eyes locked on the Ear. “I said I’m in love with you, and of a truth, I want to marry you!” His words hung in the air, a challenge to the Ear’s mocking laughter, as he awaited her response with a mix of trepidation and conviction.
Ear’s expression turned stern, her words cutting deep. “What do you take me for?” she asked, her tone incredulous. “Look at yourself, you’re so fragile, and you think you can marry me? I’m not ready to be a widow so soon, please go find someone your type!” Her words were like a slap, leaving the mosquito reeling from the harsh rejection. He felt his wings droop, his heart heavy with disappointment and humiliation.
The Ear’s laughter erupted once more, thunderous and contagious, drowning out the murmurs of the crowd and the mosquitoes’ friends. The sound echoed through the air, a triumphant crescendo that left no doubt about the mosquito’s rejection. The crowd’s amusement was palpable, and the mosquito’s embarrassment deepened, his tiny form shrinking under the Ear’s ridicule.
The mosquito’s wings fluttered frantically as he fled the scene, his tiny heart racing with shame and hurt. He buzzed away with reckless abandon, desperate to escape the Ear’s mocking laughter and the crowd’s gawking faces. His pride wounded, he yearned for the safety of obscurity, praying to vanish into thin air and never be seen again.
With a newfound determination, the mosquito stood tall, his wings fluttering with a mix of anger and resolve. “I’ll show her I’m alive, and I’ll make sure she knows it!” he declared to himself. “From now on, I’ll buzz around her, loud and proud, just to prove I’m not dead yet. My love may be gone, but my spirit remains!” With a fierce buzz, he took to the skies, ready to embark on his mission to annoy the Ear and prove his vitality.
Now you know the story behind the mosquito’s persistent buzzing around your ear. It’s not just a nuisance; it’s a reminder to the Ear of the mosquito’s unrequited love and his determination to prove he’s still alive. So, next time you swat at one, remember: it’s just trying to make a point to the Ear, and its “melodious song” is a message of resilience and defiance.
The mosquito’s story is a poignant reminder that rejection can fuel determination. His persistence serves as a metaphor for the human experience, where we often find ways to cope with heartache and rejection. Thanks for reading this tale, and I hope you’ve enjoyed it like i did telling it!
