Animals may not have the same cognitive understanding of being “food” as humans do. However, some animals may have instincts or learned behaviors that help them sense danger or avoid predators.
In the case of domesticated animals raised for food, they may not necessarily understand their fate. They may respond to their environment and interact with humans based on conditioning, habituation, or instinct.
